We are social networking machines!!!
Most people don’t know that a decent portion of our business includes custom work.
Recently, we were given the opportunity to work with The Joffrey Ballet organization in Chicago. They had a bunch of old promotional banners from a variety of shows and performances that were just sitting in their basement collecting dust. Instead of allowing the banners to take up valuable storage space or throwing them in the garbage, they decided to let us turn their useless banners into something useful…cute tote bags to give out as thank you gifts to VIP’s.
Who would of thought an old promotional banner would make for some really unique bags?
We’ve extended the life of the banner, they’ve extended the memory of some great ballet performances…Bravo!

Well, its been official for quite some time now that we didn’t win, but its hopefully still worth mentioning our submission to the recent Greener Gadgets design competition. Greener Gadgets is a conference that addresses the intersection of green and technology, broaching areas like new inventions in energy efficiency, future forward recyclable gadgetry, and the business case for going green. The competition they host is open to all who have ideas in this realm, and it piqued my interest enough to get together with some friends and brainstorm about some gadgets.
We had a great ideation session thinking of ideas, and decided in the end to choose one that focused on reducing waste in the workplace. Keeping as guiding principles that the gadget should be simple, intuitive, and give instant feedback, we created a device that attaches to a garbage can and let’s you know what and how much your tossing. A simple interface to your desktop then provides information on your progress, and your coworkers habits. Here’s a screenshot from our entry depicting how your waste tracking might look. We called it Trash Talker since your trash can tells you what’s up:

We didn’t win with this entry, but it was a great excercise, and a lot of fun to put together. There are tons of great entries that you can browse through at the competition website, if you want to see what is coming to a gadget store near you.
